Movie Shooting in Rajasthan dessert India

Unsurprisingly, Rajasthan stands as one of the prominent locations for shooting, especially in Bollywood. Countless masterpieces like Soldier, Jodhaa Akbar, and Bhool Bhuliya were shot in Rajasthan. But did you know that some Hollywood movies were also shot in Rajasthan?

And these movies are quite popular too. The vibrant land of Rajasthan provides the perfect opportunity for picturesque captures and scenic recordings. Let’s take a look at some of these famous Hollywood movies shot in Rajasthan popular places:

James Bond’s Octopussy

INSIDE THE TAJ LAKE PALACE – WHERE JAMES BOND'S OCTOPUSSY WAS FILMED (1983)
INSIDE THE TAJ LAKE PALACE – WHERE JAMES BOND’S OCTOPUSSY WAS FILMED (1983)

James Bond is one of the most famous movie franchises ever to exist. The 1983 Octopussy is also one of the best-known titles in the franchise. Much to the superb of the film, it was also shot in Udaipur when James Bond chases after Khan.

It also sets the premise for our lead spy to meet the gorgeous businesswoman who runs the palace. Jag Mandir Palace, Taj Lake Palace, and Jadish Chowk are some of the popular Rajasthan places shot and shown in the movie. The movie put India, especially Rajasthan, on the map of the world as a favourable place for tourism and shooting.

Jungle Book

Some scenes of the film, Jungle Book (1994), were shot in Jodhpur Mehrangarh Fort

It might come as a surprise, but the 1994 Jungle Book Live Action movie was also shot in Rajasthan. While the entire movie follows the premise of British Rule of India and covers many locations in the country, it also has fantastic shots of Mehrangarh Fort, located in Rajasthan.

It gives us a beautiful Rajasthan Tour. However, the movie itself isn’t glamorous but made to be grounded and capture the story’s essence.

The Darjeeling Limited

The Darjeeling Limited is a lesser-known movie globally, but it has received many awards for being one of the best movies. It has an ensemble cast like Owel Wilson, who is known for many iconic roles in comedy movies. You might also recognize Adrien Brod, another award-winning actor in the scene.

The Darjeeling Limited captures the travel story of the trio that rides on the iconic train throughout India. However, it had many beautiful or memorable shots of India taken mainly in Jodhpur to represent the culture and beauty of India.

The Fall

Regarding critically acclaimed movies, The Fall was a fantasy movie that captured the heart of its audience and many critics worldwide. However, it is shocking that it doesn’t exist on OTT or any streaming platform. Nor is it available for rent, which has stirred up the debate in Hollywood and many other places that even critically acclaimed movies can get lost in time and crowd.

However, with the film’s premise set to be a fantasy story that revolves around characters and their perspective, we receive delightful views of Jodhpur and Jaipur. You could even compare the shots to a Rajasthan Tour. The movie is often said to be one-of-a-kind for its unique direction and camerawork.

The Dark Knight Rises

Finally, we have The Dark Knight Rises the most famous Hollywood movie shot in Rajasthan. The third instalment in the Batman Trilogy by Christopher Nolan has the memorable scene where Bane drops Bruce in an underground prison.

Bruce has to practice and acquire confidence to take a leap of faith and escape that prison. That very prison and the iconic location, once he comes out of the prison, is all set in Rajasthan. More specifically, it is the Mehrangarh Fort of Rajasthan.

The movie put India as a prominent location for movie shooting worldwide. It also opened the gateway to tourism and more, much like Octopussy. Hence, we have received more films shot in India. However, many popular Rajasthan places are yet to be explored and we hope that there will come a movie that will showcase the beauty of Rajasthan in Hollywood.
