Why visit India in January

The beginning of the year is one of the best times to visit India, as with pleasantly warm weather, the north region of India provides a comfortable and cozy environment that is not only pleasant but just a perfect opportunity for outdoor sightseeing and activities.

Festivals in India during January

January is also the time for several major festivals like Makar Sankranti, Republic Day (January 26th), and Pongal (in southern India). These celebrations offer a deep cultural experience, with traditional dances, food, and rituals. Makar Sankranti, known for kite festivals in Gujarat and Rajasthan, is especially vibrant.

India is culturally rich, and when it comes to celebrating the beginning of the year, Indians have a quite positive start with positive practices that promote well-being, happiness, and prosperity. From rituals to family gatherings, every tradition is designed to welcome the new year with optimism and gratitude and with the hope of spending each day, week, and month with positivity that leads to a great future ahead.

Makar Sankranti

One of the unique festivals of India is also known as the festival of kites. Makarsankranti, where makar is a Sanskrit word, means movement of the sun in makar (Capricorn zodiac sign). On this day, Kharif crops like paddy and sugarcane and the harvest of Rabi crops: wheat, barley, grams, maize, and more are harvested. And to celebrate a healthy harvest and to thank nature, fresh sweets of til (secs seeds) along with kite flying are there to celebrate the moment.

A Sikh and Hindu festival that celebrates the deeds and help of Indian Robin Hood Dulla Bhatti. People often prepare sweets (made with sesame seeds)  and sing songs mentioning his name in them to remember his good deeds and help. In the most households, a bonfire is set up, and then they start offering sweets and food to the bonfire (a way of thanking nature) children on this day. Families visit their relatives singing the dulla Bhatti folk tale and seek blessings of the elderly.

Republic day

Republic Day, celebrated on 26th January, marks the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950, three years after independence. It is a grand national festival showcasing India’s unity and diversity through cultural parades, military parades, and weapon display shows. The President raises the National flag and conducts the Republic Day Parade at Rajpath. featuring school performances and a display of military strength and awards like the Ashok Chakra honour bravery. Across India, flag-hoisting, patriotic programs, and celebrations are conducted indicate pride in the nation’s democratic rules and principles.
